Defining Moment!

You are right, it's Olina!

In Session two of Dale Carnegie Training, every class memeber has opportunity to give a two minutes presentation about his ‘Defining Moment’. Yes! Two minutes, people will remind you on the last 30 seconds and will applause when your time is up—Doesn’t matter if you finish or not! So it’s a good practice for your presentation and time management.

Below is my sample of Defining Moment. Actually there are so many ‘Defining Moment’ in my life. I think I am defining my moment everyday. Everyday is a good start and everyday is a good experience. I can’t believe how wonderful Life is. But that moment is really engraved in my heart. So, what’s your defining moment, mind to share a little bit with me?

I am still waitting for my new Macbook Pro. Maybe later I will upload a video of my two minutes presentation. Then you can yell at me at the last thirty second as well–Thirty seconds! :)

Ok, without further due, my story starts here:

I still remember that Fall afternoon many years go. I was moping floor at home, I got an incoming message: Your visa for switzerland is ready, please come to pick it up. My heart starts to beat up and I know, my life will be totally changed.

At that time, I just graduated from university. I got a good job and I am ready to start my wonderful life. But one of my friend went to study in Switzerland, he said the outside world is amazing. I was attacted by it, so I applied the same school and applied my visa from Swiss embassy.

In fact, to get a visa is not an easy thing in China at that time. So I didn’t really put much energy on it. I basically apply it and leave it behind.

But, now I get my visa! What shall I do. My mom starts to cry, since she doesn’t want me leave. My dad keep slient. After a while, he told me: when you are young, you need to do things you passionate about. If that’s your dream, you should go.

In fact, I don’t really know what’s that mean ‘going aboard’. I just have a feeling that this world is so big, I want to go out, I want to see what’s going on out there. I don’t mind to take risk. So I decide to go.

So I went to swizerland, studied there, then transfered to the united states. Then I end up in Sillion Valley. It has been so many years. During this period of time, lots of things happening. I got lots of ups and downs. Being away from home, It’s not easy for a girl like me. But I know, that’s my choice, I need responsible for my decision.

Now in Sillion Valley, I get involved in a big company, I am working on the newest technology. I am surrounded by bunch of awesome people share the same dream with me. We are aiming to build something new and change the industry. I can’t imagine if I am still in Shenyang, will I get chance to know them.

So even if sometimes I am really down. If you ask me to go back to that fall, and remake the decision. I will tell you firmly that, I will choose to go, instead of stay. Yes, I will make the exactly same decision. Since I like to follow my passion, followed my heart. Although I am still far away from success. But I am moving toward it! I am sure I will be there, sooner or later! :)

That’s quite an amazing story. I can see now where you get such a clear sense of vision.

Thanks Michael. I think everyone has lots of amazing story to tell. We just need to look deep inside to find them.

Thanks for the vision part. I consider clear vision is a foundation to success! Of course, ability of execution is important too! Little by little, we can make the difference! :)

I’ve had many moments that are defining in the same way :) It always goes like this: Qin tries X, which is very unlike himself. Qin makes a fool of himself even though he enjoys X for the challenge. Qin pretends to be brave and keeps at it. Qin gets pretty good at X.

X = { skiing, MMORPG, stock trading, dancing }

Qin, you are quiet impressive. I need to learn Ski, dancing from you!

As to your pattern, I think people call it ‘Perseverance’! :)

Keep the good work!
