Do we have a lot to lose?

steve-jobs-3g-iphone

I think I posted that Steve Job’s video for Stanford’s 2005 graduation already. But when I read this article today, I get goose bumps. I am seating at my desk now, planning the new Vision, Breakthrough assignment for Dale Carnegie Course for the next three months.

In the meanwhile, my friend asked me to write an article to picture a typical day of mine in five years, including where do I live, how do I work, which kinds of family I build up for myself and what’s my life style by then. It is the assignment he got when he studied in MIT. So I seat here, let my mind flying while I roam on facebook, and saw this Steve Job’s quote in Ray Wu’s notes:

For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself:

“If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?”

And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something…almost everything

All external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.

Live everyday as if it is the last day of my life, it is exactly echos this blog’s philosophy. Are you asking youself the same question every morning when you look at the mirror? We have nothing to lose, yes we have nothing lose. Nothing big deal. So relax and don’t be freak out by anything happened to you! It will go away eventually, don’t trouble yourself in small things, don’t worry too much! Live TODAY as if it is the last day of your life!

Oh, by the way, today I just heard that Ken Xie’s Fortinet(NASDAQ: FTNT) finally went IPO. Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) is a worldwide provider of network security and unified threat management (UTM) solutions. Its products and subscription services provide broad, integrated and high-performance protection against dynamic security threats while simplifying the IT security infrastructure. So happy that he generated another legend for Sillion Valley! Just want to say Congrautation!

How far have we come? How far we still need to go to get there?

One friend told me that he and his family will write down what they want to accomplish in 1, 3 and 10 years if they were to live for that long. Then they mark it on the calender and actually make it happen.

I was thinking about a question: what would I do today if I were to die tomorrow? Then I read your blog. What a coincidence.

Can we all answer 3 questions in the morning for the day: 1 thing I want to do, 1 thing I have to do, and 1 thing I hate to do? Going further, you may ask why you hate to do it but still do it and if any thing you can do to change the situation.

Hi Ruoyu,

Thanks for your comment! Write down the short term and long term plan does help us to visualize our future and attract positive things happen to our life. There is a book called ‘Secret’ talks about everything around you is attracted by your thought. I love that book.

I love your three questions. Especially the last one. Remember we are going to die is the best way to clear out all the external expections, fears and prides and focus on ourselves. :)

I don’t have that book. I do have the DVD – “The Secret”. I think I can watch it again over this long weekend.

Writing down things helps me clear my mind. Asking questions can help me regain positive attitude looking at things.

It’s great to share thoughts with a friend and I treasure friendship.

Hmmm, I don’t like that automatically poped up face. It’s ugly and it’s not me. I have to do something about that.

Haha, I have the book, but I don’t have the DVD. Maybe we should exchange it for ten days! :)

Yes, I like to write down things as well. To make myself clear and see through things! It is always good to share thoughts with people alike. Like I always said–

Surround yourself with great people!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, we can trade if we can do it before my X’mas vacation so I have time to read it. I’ve done watching “the Secret”. I will need to watch it again. Every time I watch it, I learn something new.

I am supprised how much time you spent on reading. You seemed to read a lot.

I agree with you on surrounding yourself with great people. It’s also true people are attracted by you for who you are.

I have a great Thanks Giving becasue we had a great meal, I watched a great show, and it’s great chatting via blog with you.

Happy Thanks Giving to you and your family!
